LoCo 'Yaks

Lorain County Kayak & Paddle Sports Group

Welcome!

LoCo 'Yaks is a non-profit Lorain County Kayak & Paddle Sports Group providing fun, safe & eco-friendly open-water instruction and educational adventures for all ages and abilities while promoting the maintenance and preservation of our natural waterways. We are dedicated to the spirit of paddling and experiencing the quiet beauty of the undisturbed habitats surrounding our hectic everyday lives.

The goal of LoCo 'Yaks is to educate on marine debris prevention & devastation while protecting our local waters and opening people's hearts to the world of kayaking. We organize local clean-ups, participate in community events & outreach, volunteer with other non-profits, encourage Leave No Trace Principles and educate on simple everyday habits that contribute to the health of our waters. We also offer guided, open-water kayaking trips to non-profit groups who participate in our clean-up events.

If you would like to get involved, we will happily accept your donation (above, to the right of Welcome!), but also, yearly memberships are available with the LoCo 'Yaks. These include discounts on guided excursions & lessons through our sister company, The LoCo 'Yak Shak, LLC. Offering private lessons, group classes, local guided tours, and overnight adventures with ACA Certified Coastal Kayak Instructors: Stephanee Moore, Robb Koscho, and Josh Notley; who have over 15 years of combined paddling experience with the majority of their on-water time spent exploring Lake Erie's Ohio Coastline & our local rivers.

Other benefits of a LoCo 'Yaks membership include: the latest updates on The Lower Black River Restoration Project; Black River RAP information; volunteer opportunities throughout Lorain County; special no-cost Members-Only paddling events; Members-Only LoCo newsletter; the opportunity to be a part of one of the biggest community movements to ever hit Lorain County.

We also encourage and help those who are new to or interested in kayaking. Whether it be purchasing the right gear, knowing the necessary equipment to get you paddling, or even taking an afternoon trip to see if kayaking is right for you...... Which if you've come this far, it probably is

If you want to learn not only kayaking, but also proper technique and safety awareness, we are your first stop to paddling nerd-vana. Learn the correct strokes to maximize your efficiency on the water, what to do if you find yourself suddenly swimming, and even the necessary equipment to buy or not buy.

Please join us on Facebook for current info about all our events including the Black River Clean-Up

We can't wait to see you on the water!
