While fall is just beginning to show its colors, the LoCo ‘Yaks are already planning for next spring and the Black River Clean-Up 2014. Following the success of our first river clean-up, BRCU’13, we have the potential to make an outstanding impact on our community.
Supported by many local sponsors, including:
Lorain Port Authority
Mayor Ritenauer’s Office
Lorain County Metro Parks
Grumpy’s Bait/ Great Lakes Kayaking
The Morning Journal
News Channel 5 WEWS
West River Kayak & Canoe

as well as a few national groups -
Bridgestone/ Firestone Tires
American Canoe Association
Leininkegel’s Canoes For A Cause
National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA)
We saved more than 6 tons of trash from our local waterway with the help of over 250 volunteers coming from as far as Akron University. Recycling 105 tires and 1800 lbs. of scrap metal, we never could have done it without all of these amazing people.
In 2014, we would love to make this event bigger & better by attracting more national and corporate sponsors. However, many companies are limited to working only with 501c3 non-profit groups. In order to obtain 501c3 status, we need an application fee of $525 + attorney and government fees to make this mound of paperwork happen. LoCo ‘Yaks is a kayaking and paddle sports group new to the world of non-profit organizations and we desperately need your help.
On Thursday, October 17, 2013 we are having a spaghetti dinner and Chinese auction in an effort to raise these much needed funds. Please join us by donating food, supplies, or auction items so that we may continue our drive to ‘Take Back The Black’. Tickets are $15/adults and $8/kids (12 & under) for all you can eat spaghetti, salad, bread, and beverages. All donations valued at $50+ will receive a free adult ticket.
Thank you in advance for your contribution.
Make a monetary donation:
Call Stephanee (419)239-3779 to make a donation of food, supplies or auction items.
We are currently accepting pre-packaged unopened noodles, sauce, meatballs, cheese, bread, salad items, salad dressing, dessert & beverages. Our kitchen will also need sturdy NON-styrofoam plates, and disposable, preferrably recyclable utensils, napkins & take-out boxes.
The Chinese Auction will include themed gift baskets, therefore ANY gift item is appreciated -- Have a Christmas gift still sitting in the box? Maybe a gift certificate that will probably expire before you go there? Own a business with random vendor giveaways collecting dust?... We'll take it! Charity is in the heart and every donation means the world to us!
